Jack Is a five year old Yorkshire Terrier and would make an ideal family pet. He is used to being the only pet in the house but does get on well with cats. He loves his walks, is very friendly and would make an ideal companion. Jack needs an enclosed garden to stop him from straying. He is neutered and has had flea and worm treatment. It has been two years since he was last vaccinated but this will be done before he is rehomed. If you can give Jack the forever home that he will love please contact us on 087 050 5594 or by e-mail.

Hello, there! I thought everyone at the animal shelter might like to hear about how our adopted kittens are doing.

Alden and I adopted ’Parsley’ and ‘Sage’ in May/June, and we’ve had them now for a few months. We renamed them Watson (grey tabby) and Sherlock (black and white part siamese) and their personalities are showing the curiosity they were named for! They are growing like weeds, happy and healthy. We recently relocated to a bigger house and they’re very happy to have a lot more room to run around. Apart from a few encounters with plants in which the plants have come off the worse, things are very good for our little family.

Last week we received a call from one of our volunteers who had been told of two young donkeys abandoned along a local bog road, the person who discovered them had put them into a derelict premises to get them off the road. That lunchtime we got water and feed to them and had a look at their general condition. They were very scared and stuck close to each other, their winter coats hung off them remaining unshed, an indication they had not been wormed, their general condition looked poor and their hoofs required attention, they were no more than a year to eighteen months old. The temporary home had some grass and shelter and with the water and meal we left them overnight in order to plan where to move them.

Early next morning they were checked again, no meal had been taken and only a little water. With the help of a neighbour who had a tractor and horse-box we planned to move them both to the garden of one of our volunteers that evening. During the afternoon we recieved another call to tell us that the owner of the derelict site had evicted the donkeys and they were on the road again. With some local help they were rounded up and held in a nearby farm. Our thanks to all of those who took time to help, if the donkeys had wandered into the nearby forests it could have been an impossible task.

Freddie and Georgie have settled well in their foster home and have discovered the delights of meal and carrots, their coats are already improving. It seems that fate is with them as a call to find a more temporary home led to a permanent home for both Freddie and Georgie. We are delighted they will stay together as this is the best outcome we could have hoped for. If anyone has the appropriate facilities to home donkeys and/or horses and would like to help abandoned animals please let us know. Meantime we wish Freddie and Georgie a happy and care free future in their new home.

Buddy had been in kennels since his arrival with us just before Christmas so when an opportunity for a foster home came available we knew Buddy should have it until he is found a new home. He has settled well with his foster home who report:

He’s a really lovely dog and gets on great with the collie here. He’s nice and quiet in the house (asides from a bit of barking) and he’s quite good on the lead. I let him off the lead and he trots along beside my bike and races round like a racehorse in the fields! He could do with a bit of training as he has a habit of putting his big paws up on everything – he’s very well behaved and has settled into the house very well. He’s snoozing on my feet as I type!
